Italian volleyball: Cittadella to name sports hall after Michele Pasinato
CITTADELLA – Michele Pasinato will be honoured in his home town when the city’s sports hall is officially named after him on Thursday 1 October. The ceremony will take place inside the arena at 18:30.
The former Italy opposite, who died in 2021, won 252 caps for his country and was part of the teams that claimed the 1998 World Championship and European titles in 1993 and 1995.
Pasinato was inducted into the Italian Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2023. Naming the arena after him will provide a lasting tribute in the town where he was born.
Club volleyball: Michieletto returns early with new season in sight
TRENTO – Alessandro Michieletto is back at work with Trentino Volley, opting for only a brief break after international duty as he builds towards full fitness for the new season.
The outside hitter agreed an early return with the club’s staff and has resumed training at the BTS Arena. With two weeks to go before Trento’s first competitive fixture, he hopes the extra time on court will help him regain his rhythm and build an understanding with his new teammates.
Michieletto acknowledged that he still has work to do, but believes training with the squad will allow him to make steady progress. His immediate focus is on sharpening his game and finding his place in the reshaped side.
He believes Trento are stronger than last season and is eager to bounce back from a difficult campaign, confident that the squad has the quality to challenge for major honours.
Men’s EuroVolley: Marttila tops scoring charts, Kozamernik leads the blockers
MILAN – Finland’s Luka Marttila finished the 2026 Men’s EuroVolley as the tournament’s leading scorer with 157 points, averaging 4.13 per set.
Slovenia’s Nik Mujanović was second with 150 points, just ahead of Finland’s Joonas Jokela on 149.
Marttila and Ukraine’s Oleh Plotnytskyi each recorded 20 aces, with Plotnytskyi reaching that total in just 20 sets for an average of one ace per set. Italy’s Yuri Romanò was one of three players to finish with 15.
Slovenia’s Jan Kozamernik topped the blocking charts with 29 blocks. Belgium’s Martijn Colson followed with 24, ahead of Finland’s Miika Haapaniemi on 23 and Italy’s Pardo Mati on 22.
